In our first real module here at Hyper, we researched the future of the digital industry. We had the chance to attend lectures from some really interesting people like Måns Adler, founder of Bambuser, Petter Warnsberg and Jonathan Briggs. They talked about how technologies will describe the future and how this will chance the society, the people and their behaviors.
We were asked to get in contact with some other people we found interesting ourselves. So we contacted Noah Brier (Barbarian group, NYC), Richard Gatarski, Benn Malbon (BBH Labs, NYC), David Droga (Droga5, NYC), Anke Lidne (Disruptive Media) and Iain Tait (Poke, London).
Putting all this information together, we were able to form some really good insights we thought would be important in the future:
- In order to innovate we need to cross bridges between industries and categories.
- Screens are not enough anymore, they are mere obstacles to seamless integration.
- Emphasis shifts towards connecting ideas rather than remembering information.
- The Baby Boom is yet to come.
- Brands no longer compete with brands. They compete with everyday life and all media out there.
- It’s impossible to keep track of everything, so we need to establish filters.
- When you make a story in digital media it has the possibility to evolve, and never end.

At the end of the module, all groups had to present their insights for the rest of the school. The way they presented it, was entirely their choice. Some made a movie, some made a game, or some (like us) made a presentation. We even did something extra and added a small infographic.
The module was a pure eye opener for me. I love to follow new technology blogs, and I’ve been following the trends for quite a while. But sharing this with other students, and seeing it from their point of view, gave it a whole new perspective. In my opinion it’s something you should do every 6 months or so. Gathering all these insights after a few months, would be really interesting.
